Earl D. Fly, Jr. also supports the theory that Mary Calvert was a daughter of
John Calvert, (b. 6 Oct 1648 at Stranmillis, Ireland, d. 23 Sep 1699 at
Philadelphia) and Judith Stampler (b. 12 May 1652 at Bowlton, Wood, England.
He gives John Calvert's parents as Thomas Calvert (b. 1617, Lygsory, Ireland,
d. 17 Dec 1685 in Chester Co., PA) married 11 Nov 1647 at Belfast, Ireland to
Jane Glassford. Thomas Calvert's parents given as John and Grace. Jane
Glassford's parents given as Hugh and Margaret. Judith Stampler's parents
given as Hugh and Bridget.

The book , "The Immigration of the Irish Quakers into Pennsylvania, 1682-1750"
by Albert Cook Myers is referenced on page 77 of Buckey's work "The History of
the Calverts Who Were Quakers". It is available as a reprint from The
Genealogical Publishing Co., 1001 N. Calvert St. (quite appropriate),
Baltimore, Maryland 21202. It costs thirty dollars and its stock no. is 3980.
The Myers book, on page 318, gives Mary Calvert as a daughter of John and
Judith (Stamper) Calvert. The word "Chenoweth" never appears in this book.
The Myers book seems to be the source for all of the Calvert and Stamper
genealogy cited by Mr. Buckey. The book uses an old calendar system (I
haven't studied genealogy enough to know all of the terms) and really has a
wonderful feel to it, even as a reprint. I tend to agree that this is the wife
of the original John Chenoweth. No Calvert history holds out any shred of
evidence that Mary wife of John was the daughter of the Third Lord of
Baltimore. There have also been several other "family legends" from other
parts of my family which don't bear up under any scrutiny, usually involving
someone's role in the Revolutionary or Civil War, a friendship with somebody
famous or an alleged royal line. Do you know the context of the two family
Bible entries which support that Mary was the daughter of the Third Lord of
Baltimore? Were they contemporaneous, or were they written by a member of the
Calvert Western Heirs Association in the early 1900's? What do they say,
exactly? I think that one of them just said that Mary was the daughter of a
nobleman or something.

The definitive reference book on the Chenoweth family is Richard Harris'
"Chenoweth Family in America" published 1994. He doesn't have much to say
about Ruth Calvert other than he was Williams first wife, that she was rumored
to be related to the royal Calvert family although this is unsubstatntiated.
William was born in 1732. The age of Ruth is not known. William abd Ruth had
four children that we know of. By the way, the link to the royal Calverts is
generally considered popycock and it is more likely that the Calvert family
were Quakers (Bucky, "The Calverts who were Quaters", 1993). Bucky says Ruth
Calvert Chenoweth was the daughter of Josiah (Isaiah) Calvert who was son of
John Calvert (page 25). John Calvert, born c. 1689 in PA, died before 1738
Orange (Frederick) Co. VA). John was brother of Mary who married John
Chenoweth, "The Immigrant". (page 74) . Ruth married William Chenoweth before
1755 at Hopewell Meeting House (PA) (page 94). It is unlikely that Ruth was
1st cousin to Mary Calvert. Their husbands were two generations apart
(grandfather-grandson). Bucky says Mary Calvert had a sister Ruth, but that
she married Edward Pavior.
