!BIRTH-PARENTS: The date, location, and parents of John Edmonson is not known.
There are two branches of the Edmonson Family: a Catholic and a Quaker
branch. Both branches originated in the Maryland and Delaware regions. It is
reasonable to assume that John was born in one of these areas. More research
is required here.

!1787 MARRIAGE: "Nelson County Marriage Bonds, Consents, and Minister's
Returns" KY State Historical Society Library, Frankfort KY, 976.9944. Vol 1 p.
29. John Edmonson married Sally Abel, Bond 25 July 1787, Married 22 July,
consent filed by Lucy Abel, mother of Sally. Married by Wm. Taylor, witness
Anthony Foster. IGI: Batch 8627307, Sheet 61, Source Call: 1396247, FHL Film:

!1788 TAXES: Jno Edmonson is listed with one tithable in Nelson County Ky, in
Capt. Caldwell's and Gilkey's company. James Edmonson and Martha Edmonson are
also listed in the county (Martha with one slave) (Separate households)
[1045]
!1789 TAXES: John Edmonson is listed with one tithable in Capt. Gilkey's
Company of Militia. Nelson County Minute Book, 14 July 1789. James and
Matthew Edmonson are also listed with one tithable each.
[1046]
!1790 TAXES: John Edmonson is listed with one tithable in 1790 Nelson County
Minutes Book, 13 July 1790. James and Mary Edmonson are also listed.
[1047]
!WIFE-DEATH: Sally Abell died some time after 1795 when her last child was
born (Nelly) and before 1804 when it is believed that her husband John
remarried. Nelly had been in the care of her grandmother "since infancy"
according to Nelly's marriage bond. Nelly was married in 1814. Assuming Nelly
married at age 18, she was born about 1796. Therefore, Sally Abell must have
died between 1796 and 1804.
[1048]
!CHILDREN-GUARDIANSHIP: John Edmonson and Sally Abell had at least five
children. The four girls (Elizabeth, Milly, Nelly, and Polly) all came under
the guardianship of their grandmother Lucy Carman Abell Polke. Why did the
father not keep the children? Who did the son (John Jr.) live with.
[1049] !1800 CENSUS: Nelson County Kentucky (Tax List), 30 Aug 1800, John Edmonson.
[1050]
!1804 MARRIAGE: Index to Hardin County marriages, Book A, FHL Film #
03907874 April 1804, John Edmonson marries Belinda/Malinda Norris, no consent
given, certified by Jacob Southard and B. Zelen. Is this the same John
Edmonson as married Sally Abell? It's too early for the son John Jr. to be
marrying.
[1051]
!1810 CENSUS: Jefferson County, page 32, Males: 2-0-0-0-1 Females: 2-0-0-1-0
John Edmonson age 45+
Wife (Malinda/Belinda Norris) age 26-45 (35-45 based on 1820 Census)
2 male children age less than 10
2 female children age less than 10
[1052]
It seems unlikely that Malinda Norris could have had 4 children in 6 years
(not impossible but improbable). Therefore, it is possible and likely that
some of the 4 young children might be the Malinda's children from a prior
marriage, particulary in light of her age (35-45) in 1810. Or they could be
John's children from his marriage to Sally Abell.
[1053]
!1820 CENSUS: Jefferson County KY, page 59 line 8,
Males 2-2-0-0-0-1 Females 1-1-0-0-1
John Edmonson, age 55+
Malinda Norris, age 45+
2 male children 10-16
(did 1 of 1810 census girls die ?)
2 male children age less than 10
1 female child age less than 10
[1054]
John Jr. (Son of John and Sally Abell) is also listed in the this census
in a separate household.
[1055] DEATH: The death date and location of John Edmonson is not known.

I don't know anything about your John
EDMONDSON, but would suggest that you look at Davidson & Wmson Co, TN. Lots
of EDMONDSON'S, some John's. Most appear to have Rev. War grants from NC.
EFAB XXI #4, 96, p 81 says that John had 9 ch, with only Wm Henry & James of
New Madrid, MO, id'd. The John I sent as a son, was only my guess. Think
both sons were from m.2. Suggest you check Ezekiel Norris of Sumner Co. Robt
& John were teste to deed to John Buchanan of 320 A on Mill Crk, Davidson Co,
TN, 1/2 of a tract granted Jason Thompson by Ezekiel. Ths EDMONDSON had a NC
grant for 258 A on W. Fk Mill Crk surv 1786.

This John is a new person for me and I was hoping to get some direction..
One problem I have is my James is b 1803 and john m belinda in 1804 (who
miraculously becomes Malinda in 1840 Missouri census)
I got my initial Edmondson line from Mary Edmondson who died in the 1870 s a
pparently without children.... my james had died in 1858 so all his children
(all mentioned) got his share of her estate. She mentions that she has some
HALF brothers... I am thinking that my james may be from the first wife (and
a full bro) because the other 2 brothers are younger and she was b ca 1802 I
think. It also mentions "2 sisters in KY" and an ALexander Edmondson in
Indiana.
