Edmondsons were Catholic or Quakers. Nunnamakers were Luthern or Reformed (or i

[1444] Hi, Here is some more info:

[1445] The Nelson County records transcribed by Bettie Cook, containing the first
eight will books (1785-1835) and published as "Nelson County Kentucky
Records Vol. 1" contain several references to Norris including the will of
John Norris recorded in Will Book D p 107. This will (abstracted on page
184 of Cook's publication) was written 13 January 1819 and probated 19 July
1819; it names wife Barbary Norris and two sons John Norris Jr. and Leo
Norris and refers to a daughter but does not give her name.

[1446] On p 212 of this same volume we find abstracted the allotment of widow's
dower for Nancy Norris, late Nancy Greenwell and widow of Jonn Greenwell,
presently the wife of John Norris. (20 May 1822, WB D p 363) Guardian
Bond Book 5 shows that John Norris was made guardian of John Greenwell's
orphaned children Betsey Greenwell and Lewis Washington Greenwell on 8
August 1825.

[1447] On page 362 of Cook we find the abstract of Henry Norris' will as recorded
in WB 1 p 354. Written 1 October 1831 with codicil added 19 July 1834 and
probated 11 August 1834, this will requests burial at Holy Cross Church and
names "present wife" Catharine Norris, daughter Elizabeth Norris (who has
always "remained with him in the care of his household"), sons John and
Charles Norris and daughter Nancy Spalding; appoints son John executor.

[1448] In WB 1, p 373 (Cook p 365) is recorded the inventory and appraisal of the
personal property of Henry Norris deceased on 18 August 1834; John Norris
executor; recorded 11 October 1834.

[1449] The above wills tell us that there were at least three John Norris' in
Nelson County by 1834, including John who died in 1819, his son John, and
John the son of Henry. Nothing here gives us any clue, however, to the
identity of Drelender Norris' father who died by 1804. The Nelson CO
Executors, Administrators and Guardians Bond Books (also transcribed by
Cook) tell us, though, that there was still another John Norris in the
area, and that he died by 1812. Book 2 p 242 records the bond of John
Lemon as guardian for Ignatius Norris, orphan of John Norris deceased,
dated 21 December 1812. However, if this John Norris were Drelender's
father, this would have to be the bond for a new guardian replacing some
earlier guardian, and Ignatius would have to be at least eight years old.

[1450] There were four Norris' in the 1800 "Census" of Kentucky (reconstructed
from tax lists) in Nelson County (Henry, Joseph, Philip and Rudolph), and
two in Washington County (Richard and Wilford). A William Norris who died
in Hardin CO in 1853 at the age of 65 was llisted as the son of Rudolph and
Susan Norris, and his birthplace was given as Virginia. If the information
on this death record is accurate, we can consider Rudolph as Drelender's
father only if she and brother William were born within about a year of one
another to different wives (William to Susan and Drelender to Elizabeth),
since we would assume that Drelender was probably at least 15 or 16 at the
time of her marriage in 1804 and therefore born ca. 1788 or 1789, while
William was born ca. 1788. Certainly possible.

[1451] On the in Washington County (Richard and Wilford).

[1452] On the Edms:

[1453] A letter from Henry C. Peden, Jr. of 707 Bedford Rd., Bel Air MD 21014
dated in the mid 1980s was answered by a researcher (name deleted but think
it may have been Henry Jones) with this information: Patty Edmonson is in
the Washington CO tax list in 1792 with 2,000 acres of land; she gave
consent for her daughter Betsy to marry Joshua Embree in 1790 (so her
husband was deceased by then); and she was probably the widow of John
Edmonson who was in the tax lists in 1785 on Cartwrights Creek in
Washington CO. This researcher continues: Washington CO DB A p 65 records
an agreement (regarding livestock) between John Edmonson and Betty __ made
16 March 1789 in Nelson CO. Researcher says this Patty Edmonson received
a gift of 950 acres on Cartwrights Creek from her brother General Edward
Stevens and his wife Gilly of Culpepper CO VA on 20 May 1802. Also,
Kentucky Court of Appeals Deeds Bk U p 532 shows that Gen. Edward Stevens
late of Culpepper CO VA left property to his wife Gilly and after her death
to various people including the children and heirs of his sister Patty
Edmonson, viz: the children of Robert Chandler deceased (Suckey Edmonson's
husband), the children of Joseph Edmonson deceased, John Edmonson, etc.
Washington CO DB C p 295 records that on 22 Aug 1807 John Edmonson and
Delany his wife of Indiana Territory sold to Joseph and Polly Liston
infant heirs of George Liston deceased for 20 pounds a tract of land on
Cartwrights Creek; both John and Delany signed with an X, and they attested
the deed in Washington CO, not in Indiana.

[1454] The above deed was transcribed years later and typed, so I can't vouch for
the spelling of Delany's name; I would like to see if the courthouse still
has the original and would let me examine it. The Hardin CO marriage bond
does appear to spell the name Drelender, but the writing is course so
perhaps it is supposed to be Delender, from which one might get a nickname
Deleny or Delany (rhymes with Melanie)? There are three John Edmonsons in
the 1800 Census of KY; a Capt. John Edmondson in Fayette, a John Edmundson
in Garrard, and a John Edmondson in Nelson (presumably the one who married
Drelender Norris). John's mother Patty is listed as Patty Edmison in
Washington CO, and her son James Edmison is the only other one by that last
name in Washington CO that year.

[1455] If Wm s/o Rudolph was b in Va instead of MD, then I'll give a look there.
Do you have a clue as to which Cos?
Regards,
Ron
