"George Watson Passes at 79"
"Grays Harbor lost one of its few remaining pioneers with the
death last
Friday of George Watson, Cosmopolis. He was 79 years old and had
lived in this
county most of the time since 1883, when he came here with his
parents.
"He was a cousin of O. L. Watson of Montesano.
"Mr. Watson was born in Beloit, Kansa. They first lived at
John's river
and later in the Wynooche valley. Then they moved to Centralia
where they
operated the Borst farm, now Borst park.
"In his early years, Mr. Watson lived in or near Montesano. On
October 4,
1903, He married Maud Bartlett in Aberdeen. In his business life,
he was
active in lumber, construction work and insurance. For 13 years he
lived in
Cosmopolis.
"Surviving are his wife, Maud Simpson Watson, at the home; two
sons,
Leonard O. Watson, Aberdeen, and Maynard Watson, Neah Bay; two
daughters, Mrs.
Verna Mouncer, Elma, and Mrs. Phyidema Gillette, Santa Clara, Calif;
a brother,
Frank Watson, Centralia; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Figge, Oakland,
Calif. and
Mrs. Louise Wilkie, Concord, Calif., 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grand
children.
"He is buried in Wynooche Cemetary in Montesano.
